We are joining the European FUTURE4FREIGHT project
OLTIS Group will participate in the new international research and innovation project FP5-FUTURE4FREIGHT, which has been approved for funding under the Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU Rail) program, called HORIZON JU ER 2025 02.
The project, titled ENABLING FUTURE FOR EUROPEAN RAIL FREIGHT, builds on the previous FA5 activities, particularly the FP5 TRANS4M R project, and focuses on further development of digital and integrated solutions for European rail freight transport. Its implementation is planned over a period of 33 months, starting on 01 July 2026.
Two Key Work Packages of the Project
The FUTURE4FREIGHT project is structured into two main work packages:
- WP1 – Digital Automatic Coupler (DAC)
The first part of the project focuses on the development and validation of a deployable variant of the digital automatic coupler, which is one of the cornerstones of future rail freight automation.
- WS2 – Seamless Freight Services
The second part of the project, called Seamless Freight Services (Seamless for short), focuses on demonstrating integrated digital processes in freight transport. This includes, in particular:
- cross-border freight planning,
- dynamic communication between marshalling yards and TMS systems,
- multimodal planning and booking,
- real-time data integration,
- harmonized digital processes, including predictive tools.
OLTIS Group’s Involvement
OLTIS Group is participating in the FUTURE4FREIGHT project as an affiliated entity (AE) of České dráhy, similar to its role in the previous TRANS4M R project. ČD Cargo also holds the same status of an affiliated entity within the project.
Our technical collaboration is focused exclusively on the second part of the project – WS2 Seamless Freight Services.
International Consortium
The FUTURE4FREIGHT project is being implemented by a broad consortium of 67 European partners, including rail operators, infrastructure companies, technology firms, research institutions, and other key players in the field of European rail freight transport.
