Hungarian Railways 2026: expert dialogue on the future of rail transport
On 08 October 2026, we took part as a specialist partner in the Hungarian Railways 2026 conference, one of the major industry events in the Hungarian railway sector. The event provided a forum for discussion on the current situation, the main challenges, and the potential opportunities for further development of rail transport in Hungary.
The conference brought together representatives from the transport sector, the management of railway companies, infrastructure operators, rolling stock manufacturers, and the next generation of experts. Thanks to this diverse participation, the event offered diverse perspectives on the present-day status and the future of railways, thus giving all the opportunity to share experiences across the entire sector.
The main topics addressed, among other, modernisation of Hungarian railways and opportunities for the development of passenger as well as freight transport. The speech by Dávid Vitézy, Minister for Transport and Investment, also attracted attention; he focused on the significant changes facing the Hungarian railway sector and the development potential these changes bring. His presentation raised a number of important questions that may influence the future direction of rail transport in Hungary.
The programme also included the ceremonial presentation of the traditional István Sipos Award and the ‘Together for Hungarian Railways’ Award. These awards recognise the significance of professional achievements, personal contributions, and long-term work that helps in developing the railway sector and strengthen its professional community.
The round-table discussions were among the most valuable parts of the programme. The experiences and views of recognised experts demonstrated that enhancing the competitiveness of rail freight transport requires effective utilisation of existing opportunities, exploration of new avenues for development and, above all, long-term cooperation between all stakeholders.
We are convinced that such professional dialogues, joint search for solutions, and systematic development can make a significant contribution to ensuring that rail freight transport represents an even more competitive and sustainable alternative for businesses.
We would like to thank the organisers for a well-hosted conference and for the opportunity to participate in this important professional gathering as an expert partner. Hungarian Railways 2026 has once again confirmed that shaping the future of rail transport is both a shared responsibility and an opportunity for the entire sector.
