DIPOS – Revolution in the Driver’s Cab: Digital Integration for Modern Railways

Railway transport is on the threshold of a fundamental digital transformation. With the deadline for full implementation of Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1693 finished, the era of paper-based documentation is ending and the era of data efficiency is beginning. In cooperation with our partner ČD – Telematika a.s., we have prepared a comprehensive system that not only meets the legislative requirements for 2026, but also radically simplifies the work of operating personnel of today.

Principle: Automation instead of searching

The system is based on intelligent data connection between the dispatching office and the driver’s terminal device. The whole process begins with the so-called “activation” of trains in the OG dispatching system, which enables automatic preparation of accurate data. This eliminates the need for lengthy manual searches for the driver. After logging into the module for operating personnel, they immediately see “their” scheduled trains, current timetables and relevant restrictions (SPO) directly on their tablet. The system combines static data (regulations, manuals) with dynamic data (real-time timetables).

Benefits: Safety and efficiency under control

Digitalization of documentation eliminates the need for physical handover of papers, thereby reducing the risk of document loss and error rates. However, the key benefit is increased operational safety. The system introduces the principle of “provable familiarization”, where the application records whether and when the driver has familiarized him/herself with the necessary documentation. Thanks to connection with the control system, the principle of multiple-eye control is applied minimizing the incidence of human errors.

For the carrier’s management, a fundamental advantage is that all operational data remains with the customer. This enables detailed reporting, capacity evaluation, and the creation of reports for regulatory authorities, which is not possible with conventional public websites.

What makes the solution exceptional?

The uniqueness lies in its comprehensiveness and direct integration. It is not just a PDF reader, but a tool for active traffic management that enables operational rescheduling and flexibility. The system is also modular and ready for expansion to include other functions, such as the Operations Personnel Module or the Vehicle File for fleet management.

Our intensive preparation and detailed knowledge of operational processes have led to the solution being fully ready for real-world deployment by railway operators. Thanks to direct technological integration into customers’ control systems, a unified environment is created that simplifies the work of train drivers, improves operational overview, and enables the management to handle capacities and internal processes more effectively. The result is higher safety, less administrative burden, and significant acceleration of flow of information across the organization.
